Music and Worship

Worship is at once about who we are, about who (or what) our god is, and about how we choose to live. It is about something that is quite simple but wrapped in mystery. It is about God himself.

Harold Best

Worship is more than music. It is more than a time-slot on Sundays. It is not a program or a service, but an encounter. It is a connection between God and man in which we recognize who He is and what He’s done for us. It is both joyous praise and humble adoration, and it can occur in both majestic cathedrals and secluded closets. Worship is also common to all people – we all worship something. Too often we focus on “how,” when we should always be focused on “who.”

Our worship here at Lake Bowen is passionate. We are serious about connecting with our Creator, and excited about how He moves. Music is one of our favorite tools to help facilitate worship. God made us a diverse people, and our music represents this as we employ a wide variety of musical styles and genres. The overall goal of our music ministry is not to perform, but to lead everyone in praising our Audience of One.

Adult Choir

“Sing to the Lord, you saints of his; Praise his holy name!”

                                                               Psalm 30:4

Time and time again scripture commands us to sing, and our Adult Choir exists to worship our King through the most universal of instruments – the voice. More ‘lead-worshipers’ than anything else, this open group meets on Wednesday nights form 7:30 - 9:00 in the choir room in preparation to lead both Sunday services in worship. All levels of singers are invited as the only requirements are a heart for worship and a willingness to participate regularly.

Orchestra

“Praise Him with the sounding of the trumpet,
Praise Him with the harp and lyre,”

                                                               Psalm 150:3

Whether it is the harp and lyre or guitars and drums, the message is the same – use any and all instruments to praise His holy name! Our diverse Orchestra exists to use their musical talents for His glory by accompanying all worship services. A vital part of our music ministry, they rehearse on Wednesdays from 6:30 – 7:30 and on Sundays from 5:00 – 6:15. While open to all willing participants with a love for God, the level of music and commitment needed best suits experienced musicians.

Praise Team

An outgrowth of the Adult Choir, our Praise Team helps lead us to the throne of God through each and every congregational song by singing on stage with the worship leader. Both musically and spiritually, this committed and diverse group encourages others to participate in the worship of our Lord. Participation is through audition only.

Ensembles

Composed of members of the Adult Choir, our various ensembles lead in worship by singing special music selections several times a year. Participation is limited.

Children’s Choirs

We believe that no child is too young to be set on a path of praise. What is more, few things grant us a better glimpse of heaven than hearing our children worship their Creator.

Our Preschool choir is split into two groups: 2-3 Year Olds and 4-5 Year Olds. While the older group does perform with the Children’s Choir occasionally, their main purpose is to lay a foundation of worship and celebration that will last throughout their lives.

Our Children’s Choir (1st through 5th grade) continues to build this foundation by regularly performing musicals and by participating in special anthems with the adult choir.

All children’s choirs meet on Sundays from 5:15 – 6:15 pm.

Media Team

In a modern world where many people listen with their eyes, our media team plays a vital role in ensuring that no aspect of worship is missed. While they usually stay behind the scenes, this ministry handles all the audio, video, graphics, and recording needs of the church. Participation is open, but a high level of commitment and a basic knowledge of technology is required.
